Empirical Health review: tests, cost, and doctor access (2026)
By Elo, last updated:
Empirical Health offers a $190 Comprehensive Health Panel with 100 biomarkers and physician interpretation, without an annual lab subscription. I have used Empirical Health as well as Function and Quest. Its main distinction is access to medical care alongside testing; a separate $399 heart-health program adds follow-up testing over 12 months.
What biomarkers does Empirical Health test?
The Comprehensive Health Panel covers cholesterol and cardiovascular risk, blood counts, metabolic health, liver and kidney function, thyroid screening, iron, vitamins, and urine testing. It includes ApoB, Lp(a), hs-CRP, HbA1c, vitamin D, B12, and folate.

| Total in our database | 100 | Each entry counted once; repeat testing excluded |
The table counts each entry in our database once, including calculated results and urine findings. A count of 100 does not mean 100 separate blood assays. Thyroid testing uses TSH with reflex testing, so additional thyroid results depend on the initial result. Fasting insulin is not explicitly listed in this panel.
How do you order Empirical Health’s blood test?
Select the Comprehensive Health Panel, complete the intake, and arrange your visit at a participating Quest location. Empirical advertises more than 2,200 testing locations and a single lab visit for the baseline panel. Follow the preparation instructions supplied with your order.
Results appear in the app with physician interpretation and a personalized nutrition and exercise plan. The report shown above is Empirical’s public product example.
What medical care and repeat testing are available?
Empirical provides access to doctors who can discuss results and, when appropriate, order further testing or prescribe treatment. Medical services depend on your state and selected plan; the $190 panel should not be read as unlimited medical visits or included medication costs.
The separate $399 Advanced Heart Health program runs for 12 months. It includes the baseline panel and custom retests at three and nine months, with doctor support. Those follow-ups are tailored tests, rather than three identical comprehensive panels.
Is Empirical Health worth the price?
Empirical Health charges $190 one-time. Buying tests separately at Marek Diagnostics costs $248.50, including collection, and covers 84 of 100 results in the panel list we reviewed, including 18 results calculated from other measurements. The order leaves 16 results uncovered and excludes Empirical Health's app and support.
How does Empirical Health compare with competitors?
| Provider | Listed cost | Testing model | Main distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Empirical Health | $190 once; $399 separate program | One comprehensive panel; program adds custom retests | Physician-led service and access to medical care |
| Function Health | $365/year | Broad baseline plus smaller mid-year panel | Broader thyroid testing and fasting insulin; written clinician notes |
| Superpower | $199/year | One annual baseline; retest extra | App, recommendations, and care-team messaging |
| WHOOP Advanced Labs | $199/year for one comprehensive test; $349 for two | 75-marker comprehensive panel | Lab results alongside WHOOP wearable data if you use a band |
