Rarely. DHEA-S is useful in a specific workup, mainly signs of excess androgen like unusual hair growth or acne with irregular periods, where it helps point at the adrenal glands. Bought on its own as a vitality number, it won't tell you much you can act on. It's mostly here because panels include it.

Does insurance cover a DHEA-S test?

The $33 allowed amount is an estimate, about 1.5x Medicare's $22.23 rate for CPT 82627, and it moves with the lab and the market: the same test is contracted around $18 at one national lab and into the $40s at another. Coinsurance is assumed at 20% once your deductible is met.
